Hello Dear Friends,

How are you? I mean it. How are you doing?

I’m here– even when I don’t write.

I hope it’s OK that I have not written in a few weeks.

I’ve moved to Washington, D.C.

In that time, newsrooms across the country are adapting to reporting on more than just the former president’s latest tweet or scandal. The further we get from his time in office, the more expansive the reporting. It’s refreshing if you can stomach the heartbreak. (Let me know if you’ve noticed the difference. I’m sure you know more than 200 people died in Gaza, 60+ were children. Two children were killed in Israel, among 10 others.)

I’m working for the Chinese media right now. It’s a lucrative living if you can compartmentalize. Stories of high importance here don’t register there, and vice versa. In a welcome turn of events, I had two offers.  In the end, I chose the bag, my free time.

Feels good to be cutting video again. I still can hardly believe people pay me to do that– to watch video. Weirdos. The lot of us.

ENPS, a producer software, is a beast, but picking it back up has been like riding a bike… or one of those electric scooters.

I rode one of those electric scooters last week, and I won’t stop talking about it. I’d do it again, but with a helmet. Safety first. But really though..

New life loading,
Kim B.

Biden Administration Extends Protections for Haitians

The Biden administration announced that it is willing to provide Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to 100,000 more Haitians living in the U.S. without legal papers.

The Trump administration tried to end the TPS program for Haitians in 2018, but human rights organizations sued, leaving thousands of people in limbo.

In a perfect world, the TPS would lower the risk of deportation for those people displaced by any one of the recent humanitarian crises to hit Haiti.

Nancy Pelosi took the occasion to say, “”It is imperative that the Dream and Promise Act, passed by the House, is enacted, so that we can provide a path to permanent residence and eventual citizenship to TPS holders.”

So far, conservative voices have been quiet on the measure. (Source.)

Roe v. Wade Challenged By Mississippi

Mississippi lawmakers have passed a law directly challenging a woman’s legal right to choose what to do with an unexpected pregnancy.

Roe vs. Wade gave American women the right to an abortion up to about 24 weeks. The new law makes it illegal to have an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy– or one missed cycle.

The Supreme Court, which is stacked at a 6-3 conservative advantage, is expected to take up the case next year. (Source.)

The Hottest Spot in NYC According to Vogue

I just threw this one in here for a bit of escapism.

Today was the first day that I felt homesick for NYC. And apparently, its street corners have become the “place to be.” This does not surprise me one bit. (Source.)
